BRYAN, TEXAS – Annelie Sjoholm is tied for 16th and Campbell sits in ninth place on the team leader board following Friday's second round of the NCAA women's golf regional championship at Traditions Club.
If the Camels (288-296—584) are to qualify for a third-straight berth in the NCAA Championship, they will need to make up six strokes on Saturday. Miami (290-288—578) sits in sixth place, one shot behind Texas (577) in the 18-school field.
The top six schools and three individuals not on qualifying teams from the 54-hole regional will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 20-25 at Eugene (Ore.) Country Club. Campbell will start Saturday's final round at 8:00 a.m. from the first tee, paired with TCU and Kent State. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
It wasn't our best day," said Campbell head coach John Crooks. "We battled all day but finished poorly. We played the last five holes five over and they were the easiest of the day. Tomorrow is our opportunity to post a score and see what happens."
No.-11 Arizona leads the field at 9-under-par, one shot better than No.-3 UCLA. Georgia is third at 7-under, followed by Furman (-2).
TCU (582) is seventh, followed by Kent State (583), while Campbell (584) and Tulane (585) round out the top-10. Campbell's 36-hole team score is the second-best for the program in 17 trips to regional competition. Only the 2014 team posted a better number (291-290--581) through two rounds.
Bronte Law of UCLA (69-66—135) owns a one-stroke lead over Bianca Pagdanganan of Gonzaga (67-69—136) on the individual leader board.
One day after shooting its best-ever round (288) in NCAA regional play, Campbell shot an 8-over 296 Friday. As a team, Campbell leads the event in par-three scoring (-2) and tops the field with 120 pars.
