BUIES CREEK, N.C. – In addition to making a fifth-consecutive NCAA post-season appearance and winning its third Big South Conference Championship in the same span, Campbell University's women's golf team has again been recognized by the NCAA for its performance in the classroom.
For the fourth-straight year, Coach John Crooks' team has earned the NCAA Public Recognition Award for posting scores in the top 10 percent of its sport. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally.
"I am very proud of our APR success," said Crooks, whose teams have finished either first or second in their conference championship 23 times in 25 years. "The better we do in the classroom, the fewer worries we have on the course. Our student-athletes continue to be outstanding ambassadors for the University."
Based on its most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rate, Campbell's women's golf program is one of
1,071 teams across the nation publicly recognized for high achievement. The scores required to be in the top 10 ranged from 983 to a perfect 1,000, depending on the sport. Earning a perfect APR score were 944 teams.
A total of 290 schools placed at least one team on the top APR list. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2011-2012, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.
Seven of the eight players (including all five competing in the conference and regional championships) on the 2015-16 Campbell women's golf roster posted grade-point averages of 3.0 or higher for the academic year. Sofie Huseby, Ayelen Irizar, Louise Latorre, Tahnia Ravnjak, Annelie Sjoholm, Anna Svanka and Nadine White will be named to the 2016 Big South Conference Presidential Honor Roll.
Sjoholm, who owns a 3.6 grade-point average as a business administration major, was also named to the Big South women's golf all-academic team.
White, the Big South player of the year and league championship medalist, was joined on the all-conference team by Latorre, Sjoholm and Ravnjak.
Campbell finished the year ranked No.-50 in the nation according to Golfstat, won three tournaments and missed a third-straight trip to the NCAA Championship by only five strokes at the Bryan Regional. The Camels won their conference tournament for the 13th time in the last 24 years and earned an NCAA regional trip for the 19th time in 24 seasons.
