Women's soccer announces 2016 schedule

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell women's soccer head coach Stuart Horne has announced the 2016 schedule. The schedule consists of a pair of home exhibition matches, along with four non-conference home matches.

"I'm looking forward to our schedule this year," Horne stated. "Looking at our non-conference slate of games and combine that with our already highly competitive Big South schedule we have a very strong schedule for 2016."

The Fighting Camels open the regular season Friday, Aug. 19 at Davidson with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. The home opener commences Sunday, Aug. 21 against American University at 2 p.m.

Five days later, Campbell hits the road for a 7 p.m. contest, Aug. 26 in Tuscaloosa against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The following Wednesday, Aug. 31, Campbell plays host to UNC Wilmington at 7 p.m. and then hosts CSU Bakersfield, Sunday, Sept. 4 at 1 p.m.

A four-game road swing lies ahead for Campbell in September, beginning Sept. 9 at VMI with kickoff at 4 p.m. Two days later, Campbell heads to Spartanburg, South Carolina for a Sunday afternoon match against USC Upstate at 4 p.m. The following weekend Campbell concludes non-conference action in Florida against Stetson, Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. and at North Florida Sunday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m.

"The non conference portion will be great for our team because the teams we will be competing against will all provide different and unique challenges for us," Horne said.

Big South play begins Sept. 24 at home as Campbell takes on Presbyterian at 1 p.m. Four days later, Campbell hits the road to take on Charleston Southern at 4 p.m., Sept. 28. A trip to UNC Asheville commences Saturday Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.

The Big South runner-up from 2015 closes the season with four of the final six matches inside the friendly confines. Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. Campbell plays host to High Point, followed by a weekend date with Winthrop at 4 p.m. A road trip to Radford is set for Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Campbell then returns home for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Liberty Oct. 15 and then the midweek home finale against Longwood, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. The Fighting Camels close out the regular season at Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m., Oct. 22.

"Big South conference games are always a battle," Horne said. "It's cliche to say but any team on any day can win in the Big South and that just makes each conference game and every point that much more important."
