Campbell places 161 on Big South Presidential Honor Roll

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell University placed 161 student-athletes on the Big South Conference Presidential Honor Roll and had a total of 248 Camels on league academic honor lists during 2015-16.  To earn Big South honor roll status, a student-athlete must maintain at 3.0 or higher grade-point average for the entire academic year.

In addition to those athletes who compete in Big South Conference-sponsored sports, Campbell had 53 players named to the Pioneer Football League All-Academic team, 21 on the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association All-Academic list and 13 wrestlers earn Southern Conference Honor Roll status.

Overall, 58.33 percent of Campbell's student-athletes participating in Big South Conference sponsored sports achieved Presidential Honor Roll status, higher than the league average (55.02).  Campbell accounted for seven of the 44 men's basketball players league-wide among 11 member institutions to post a 3.0, or higher, GPA for 2015-16.

"It says quite a lot to have almost 60 percent of our student-athletes to make this prestigious list," said Athletics Director Bob Roller.  "We are very proud of all 21 of our sports for this high honor.""

Campbell topped Big South men's basketball programs with seven players named to the Presidential Honor Roll and shared the most honorees in women's golf (seven) with Gardner-Webb.  Eight members of CU's men's golf team also were named to the list, just one shy of league-leading High Point.

Twenty-four of Campbell's women's soccer players were named to the chart, while the women's lacrosse team placed 21 on the Presidential Honor Roll. Ten of the 15 players on the Campbell women's basketball roster also earned the Big South status.

Campbell's baseball team had 19 student-athletes recognized, while the women's track & field/cross country and men's soccer teams placed 13 each on the Presidential Honor Roll.  The softball team had 10 of its members achieve honor roll status.

Eight of the nine players on the men's tennis rosters compiled a 3.0 GPA for the academic year, while seven of the 10 on the women's tennis list also earned honor roll recognition.  The men's track & field/cross country team and women's volleyball team also placed seven each on the Big South honor roll.
