BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell University men's golf head coach John Crooks has announced that Connecticut state high school champion Max Theodorakis has signed an athletics grant-in-aid with the Fighting Camels.

In addition to posting the lowest stroke average among 2016 Connecticut high school golfers as a senior at Danbury High, Theodorakis owns a runner-up finish in the 2016 Met Connecticut Junior Amateur Championship as well as a top-10 showing in the 2016 New England Amateur.

He finished fourth in the 2015 New England Junior, was third in the 2015 AJGA CPC Classic and runner-up in the 2014 Connecticut Junior championship.

Theodorakis joins a Fighting Camel program that is coming off an appearance in the NCAA Kohler (Wis.) Regional.  Coach Crooks' 2015-16 team won titles at the Old Dominion OBX Collegiate and Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate while claiming four runner-up trophies, including one at the Big South Conference Championship.

The Camels finished the season No.-67 in the national Golfstat national team rankings and rated among the nation's top-10 in five different statistical categories.  Campbell golfers were second nationally in greens in regulation (.678), third in short game percentage (.568), ninth in par-three scoring (3.15) and putts on greens in regulation (1.842) and 10th in fairway percentage (.692), according to Golfstat.

"Max has displayed some incredible talents in both the junior golf tournaments he's played and in some major amateur events.  We're so pleased that an individual of his skills is going to join our program," said Coach Crooks, a 2006 inductee into the National Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Under the direction of Coach Crooks, Campbell's men's and women's golf teams have combined for 27 NCAA post-season appearances and 127 tournament titles over the last 26 years.  Both the Campbell men and women advanced to NCAA Regional play in 2016.

Campbell returns five golfers in 2016-17 who have earned Big South all-conference honors in Gaston Bertinotti, Craig Hornberger, Ray Kraivixien, Thomas La Morte and Jesper Svensson, the 2016 Big South freshman of the year.
