PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – With its women's team moving into a tie for first and the men just two strokes out of the lead, Campbell extended its advantage to 19 strokes in the combined standings of the Golfweek Program Challenge.
The Campbell women turned in the low score of the day (1-over 285) to move even with Boston College atop the leader board at 7-over par entering Tuesday's final round. Campbell's men are 17-under after 36 holes, just behind Jacksonville (-19) and James Madison (-18) in the 16-team men's field.
The 54-hole event, which includes a women's stroke play tournament at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and a men's tourney at True Blue Plantation continues through Tuesday. Campbell (-10) tops the combined results with Jacksonville State (+9) second and Boston College (+10) third.
Campbell is seeking its fifth combined title (and second in a row) in the six-year history of the event. CU has won the women's tournament three times (2012, 2013, 2015), while the Camel men are in search of their first victory at the event since winning the inaugural Program Challenge in 2011.
On the men's side, junior Thomas LaMorte is tied for the individual lead at 10-under-par 134. He followed a collegiate career low 66 Sunday with five birdies Monday. The native of Demarest, N.J., has made 11 birdies and only one bogey through 36 holes. The lone blemish on his scorecard Monday came on the par-three 16th, but he rebounded with a birdie on the par-four 17th.
LaMorte (66-68) is tied with Camilo Aquado of Jacksonville State (66-68), one stroke ahead of Jacksonville's David Wicks (69-66) on the par-72, 6982-yard True Blue layout. LaMorte is tied for the lead in the 80-golfer field in par-four scoring (-4), is second in birdies (11) and third on the par-3 holes (-2).
After matching his collegiate career low Sunday, Campbell sophomore Ray Kraivixien finished one better Monday and is fifth at 7-over 137 (69-68). The product of Bangkok, Thailand has made 27 pars (tied for fourth in the field) and eight birdies, while matching LaMorte on the par-3 holes (-2).
Freshman Max Theodorakis is tied for 28th place (67-76—143) at one-under par. He has eight birdies through two rounds. Senior Craig Hornberger is tied for 39th (70-75—145), while red-shirt freshman Brett McLamb is tied for 61st (74-76—150).
The Campbell men will start from True Blue's first tee at 9:00 a.m. along with Jacksonville and James Madison for Tuesday's final round.
