BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After helping lead Campbell University to its fifth Golfweek Program Challenge combined title in six years, Stacey White was named the Come Ready Nutrition Big South freshman of the week.
In her first collegiate tournament, White finished fifth individually (73-69-74—216) at 3-over par. She was the team's low individual as all five Camels placed among the top 20. The younger sister of 2016 Big South Conference player of the year (and defending Program Challenge medalist) Nadine White, Stacey finished the 54-hole event tied for first in the field in par-5 scoring (-4) and tied for eighth with 36 pars.
She made 15 pars Tuesday in her 3-over final round on the par-71, 6042-yard Caledonia Golf & Fish Club layout. She was the low finisher among 15 Big South golfers in the event.
The Golfweek Program Challenge, which includes a women's stroke play tournament at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and a men's tourney at True Blue Plantation, features teams from 16 schools across the country. Campbell finished second in both of this year's men's and women's tournaments to add to its run of combined crowns in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015.
Campbell's men (-28) and women (+14) finished a combined 14 strokes under par, 25 ahead of runner-up Jacksonville (+11), which won the men's event (-32). Boston College (+19), which claimed the women's tournament (+13) by one shot over Campbell, was third overall.
The Campbell women return to action Sept. 25-27 in the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky GC in Vail, Colo.
