ERIE, COLO. – Max Theodorakis and Jesper Svensson are tied for 15th individually and Campbell is fourth in the team standings after 36 holes Monday of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational.
Host Colorado (282-276—558) owns a five-stroke lead heading into Tuesday's final round on the par-72, 7745-yard Colorado National Golf Course. Utah (277-286—563) is second, one stroke ahead of Houston Baptist (283-281—564) and two in front of Campbell (283-282—565) and Wyoming (280-285—565). Boise State and Washington State are tied for sixth at 574 strokes in the 19-school field.
Morten Toft Hansen of Colorado holds the individual lead at 8-under-par 136 (71-65), one stroke ahead of Air Force's Sun Woo Choi (69-68—137) and Val Almendarez of Houston Baptist (70-67—137).
After a five-under-par 67 during Monday's first round, Theodorakis shot one-over 73 in the afternoon and is four strokes off the lead. A freshman from Danbury, Conn., Theodorakis opened the day with a six-birdie first round and played the final 10 holes of the opening 18 at 4-under par.
Making his 2016-17 debut, Svensson made 12 birdies on the day – 6 in each round – most in the field of 108 golfers. The 2016 Big South Conference freshman of the year played the par-5 holes at 5-under, tied for second in the event and also sits four strokes off the lead after back-to-back 70s.
Fellow sophomore Ray Kraivixien made 29 pars (tops in the field) Monday, while making four birdies and just three bogeys through 36 holes. He is tied for 30th at 1-under-par 143 (72-71). Junior Thomas La Morte birdied five of his first 10 holes Monday afternoon and is tied for 38th at even-par 144 (74-70). He is tied for 9th in the event with 26 pars.
After an opening-round 76, Craig Hornberger shot 1-under 71 and is tied for 60th at 3-over par. His second round included an eagle on the par-four 17th hole, plus three birdies.
As a team, the Camels are tied for second in the event in par-five scoring (-10) and pars (121), stand third on the par-four holes (-1) and are tied for 7th with 34 birdies.
