Swimming hosts Liberty in season opener Saturday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell opens the 2016-17 season Saturday, October 1, hosting Liberty at the Johnson Aquatic Center at 1 p.m.

The Camels return 15 letterwinners from last season's squad while welcoming eight newcomers to the fold.

Last season the Camels went 7-5 overall, finishing fifth at the CCSA Championships. Under the guidance of head coach Pascal Molinard, the Camels earned their third winning campaign in four seasons, setting six school records.

For the fifth-consecutive semester, Campbell qualified for College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America status for the 2015 fall semester with a team grade point average of 3.47.  A school-record 21 of Campbell's 23 team members were honored on the 2015-16 CCSA All-Academic team.

Junior Michelle Case, who was twice named CCSA Swimmer of the Week in 2015-16, highlights Campbell's returners. Case owns school records in the 50 free (23.61) and the 100 free (51.20), also helping set CU program marks in the 200 free relay (1:33.77) and the 400 free relay (3:28.00).

Liberty was the runner-up in last season's CCSA Championships. The Flames took a pair of meets from the Camels in 2015-16, including a 171-129 victory in Buies Creek and a 162-107 decision in Lynchburg, Va.

The Camels will travel to UNC Asheville on Oct. 8 for their first road test.
