CSU downs Camels 12-6 Friday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Charleston Southern pounded out 12 runs on eight hits to top Campbell 12-6 Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium.

Charleston Southern moved to 14-10 on the season and 3-4 in Big South games. Campbell, coming into Friday night's Big South home opener a winner in five of its last six outings, dropped to 12-14 overall and 2-2 in Big South play.

The top of the Buccaneer order drove in nine of CSU's 12 runs, including three from Jason Miller, who notched a two-run single in a four-run Charleston Southern fifth, and took a bases loaded walk in a five-run Buccaneer sixth. Miller was 1-for-4 at the plate in the win.

Nate Blanchard, Brandon Gragilla and Chris Singleton all knocked in two at the top of the CSU lineup. Blanchard also scored twice, going 1-for-4.

Nik Constantakos (2-1) earned the win for CSU, going six innings with three runs on seven hits, striking out six without a walk.

Jamison Mobbs tossed a scoreless seventh, surrendering a hit and a walk. Seth Owens allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits with a strikeout and a walk in two innings.

Allan Winans (2-3) took the loss, allowing six runs on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk in four innings. Harry Thomas and Erik Dowse bridged the gap, allowing a combined five CSU runs.

Bryce Cota and Phil Stokes pitched the final 3 2/3 scoreless.

Jeff Hahs went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs, keeping the Camels alive in the ninth with a two out, two-run home run to center, his fourth homer of the season and third over his last four games.

Kevin Barron also homered, a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth for his third of the season, going 2-for-4 on the night. Christian Jones added a 3-for-4 effort, scoring a run.

The series continues Saturday with a 3 p.m. first pitch. Sunday's finale is set for 2 p.m.

The Camels will head to longtime rival UNCW on April 4, jumping back into Big South play on the road at High Point April 7-9.
