Kemboi, Scott tabbed with Big South weekly honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Fighting Camels have earned two Big South weekly honors, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon. Campbell freshman Amon Kemboi has been named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while classmate Janai Scott has earned Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second-straight week.

Kemboi is coming off a record-breaking performance in the men's 5K at the Mt. Sac Relays in Torrance, Calif. He placed 11th overall at the meet with a time of 13:47.77 to break a Campbell record, previously held by Campbell redshirt sophomore Lawrence Kipkoech. According to the most recent TFRRS lists, Kemboi's mark currently ranks second in the region and 11th in all of Division I.

Scott competed at the Gamecock Invitational this past weekend, setting PR's in the women's 100m and 200m dashes. She finished the 100m with a time 11.89, the second-fastest mark for Campbell this season and ranked third in the conference. In the 200m, Scott posted a Big South-leading time of 23.95 to become the first athlete in the conference to go sub-24 this season.

The Camels have now earned seven Big South weekly awards this outdoor season. Sabina Allen, Daequon Carr and Scott were all honored last week, while Kemboi and Joan Maritim received weekly awards on March 29.

Up next, Campbell is scheduled to compete in the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. on Friday and Saturday, April 21-22. For the most up-to-date information on Campbell track & field, follow @GoCamelsRun on Twitter.
