Panthers knock off Camels 17-10 to snap five-game winning streak

HIGH POINT, N.C. --- In a matchup of the final two unbeaten teams in Big South Conference play, High Point came away with a 17-10 victory at Vert Stadium Wednesday night. Kayla Reilly led the Camels with six points on two goals and a game-high four assists.

Tina Ricci and Mackenzie Koeller led Campbell's (8-7, 5-1 BSC) scoring effort with three goals apiece while Carter Koontz found the back of the cage twice. Sam Carey had a game-high five draw controls while Melissa Placek picked up four draws and had an assist.

The Panthers (12-3, 5-0), who won their 12th-straight game, turned an 11-7 advantage to 14-7 with 11:43 left to play with three unanswered goals. The Camels responded with three-straight scores of their own and trailed 14-10 with 6:59 showing on the clock.

However, HPU finished the game with three more unanswered goals in the final 3:46 of action en route to the seven-goal win. With the victory, the Panthers clinched at least a share of the Big South regular season championship.

Samantha Brown tallied a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists while Brooke Stevens and Erica Perrotta each scored three times. Dara Poulin and Emory Gaeng both found the back of the cage twice.

Jill Rall earned the win in goal with five saves while Merredith Bechler took the loss despite 12 stops. High Point held a commanding 46-18 advantage in shots and forced 20 Camel turnovers. The Panthers also held a 23-17 advantage on the draw.

Koeller and Ricci put the Camels up 2-0 in the first two minutes of action. High Point responded with seven-straight goals and held a 7-2 lead with 16:12 left in the first half.

Koontz broke HPU's scoring run and kicked off a 4-0 Camel spurt that drew Campbell within one of the lead at 7-6 with 6:10 to play before halftime. However, the Panthers responded with three unanswered goals in the final 4:39 of the first half to take a 10-6 advantage to the break.

The Camels will wrap-up the 2017 regular season on the road Saturday at Radford. First draw is set for noon.
