Box Score ROCK Hill, S.C. --- An eight-run seventh inning and a strong outing from pitcher Wes Noble helped Campbell earn an 11-5 victory over Winthrop Saturday afternoon in game two of the Big South baseball series.
The Camels improved to 23-27 overall and 8-12 in the Big South while the Eagles, who sit atop the conference, fell to 28-20 and 14-6 in the league.
Noble (4-2) went six innings in the start and fanned six batters, didn't issue a walk and only surrendered two runs in the bottom of the first. Winthrop starter Nate Pawelczyk took the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, in six innings on the mound with six strikeouts and two walks.
The Camels sent 11 batters to the plate in the top of the seventh after entering with a 3-2 lead. Ben Calvano unloaded the bases with a three-run triple while Drew Butler and Zach Minnick both tallied RBI singles in the frame.
Jeff Hahs drew a RBI walk and Cole Hallum recorded a RBI on a hit by a pitch. Matthew Barefoot also drove in a run on an Eagle error.
Minnick finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of walks and two RBI. He opened the scoring for the Camels with a solo home run in the top of the second. It was his fifth homer of the season.
Hahs finished 2-for-4 at the plate and his solo homer in the sixth, his 10th of the year, gave Campbell a 3-2 advantage. He also tied the game at 2-2 when he stole home in the top of the fourth.
Grant English led Winthrop at the plate on a 3-for-5 outing with a RBI. Matthew Mulkey, Anthony Paulsen and Brandon Fite each had a pair of hits and Jake Sullivan drove in two runs.
Alex Yarem pitched three innings in relief for the Camels and struck out three batters while allowing three earned runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The rubber game of the series is set for Sunday at 2 p.m.
