BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Rachel McCollum went 3-for-4 with three runs and five RBI to lead Campbell to a 13-4 five inning victory over Northern Kentucky on day two at the Campbell Invitational at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
With the win, the Camels move to 5-3 on the season, while the Norse opened up the season with a 0-2 record on Friday. NKU opened up the day with a 9-4 loss at the hands of Morehead State.
CU poured on six runs during the third inning of play to jump out to an early 6-0 lead. The Camels loaded the bases with no outs and McCollum knocked a single through the left side to bring home
Megan Mozingo and
Bri Bryant. Two plays later,
Lizabeth McCurry hit a two-run homer to center field to expand the lead to 4-0.
Katie Manring brought in two more runs off a single to right field.
The Norse responded with two runs in the fourth inning to cut Campbell's lead to 6-2. Sydney Ferrante hit a lead-off double to center field and was brought home by a Madi Mulder single to right field. A single by Taylor Brummell scored Mulder for NKU's second run of the inning. Northern Kentucky had two in scoring position, but a groundout by Ava Lawson ended the flurry.
The Orange and Black broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning to give CU a nine run lead over the Norse at 11-2.

Caroline Smith and
Haydn Parker all scored runs for the Camels off of six base hits.
Northern Kentucky tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning to keep the game alive and cut CU's margin to seven runs. Mulder singled up the middle to bring home Jose Frazier and Kailey Rossiter after the duo had gotten on base via a bunt and walk.
McCollum ended the game in the fifth with a two-run home run to center field to bring it to the final score of 13-4. The homer, which is her first of the 2018 campaign, also scored Mozingo.
Lexy Head (1-1) picked up her first win of the season after holding the Norse to three hits and two runs in four innings pitched while striking out two.
Megan Richards pitched the fifth inning, giving up two runs and striking out one to secure the victory for the Camels.
Faith Howard (0-1) was charged with the loss for the Norse, as she conceded six runs during 2.1 innings pitched. Taylor Ginther and Ashlynn Roberts also appeared in the circle for the visitors.
