FARMVILLE, VA. –
Ted Williams provided the decisive point in singles play and Campbell defeated Longwood 4-3 Friday in a Big South Conference men's tennis dual match at Lancer Courts.
The Camels (9-4, 3-1) won for the eighth time in their last nine outings by claiming the doubles point, then splitting the singles matches. Longwood won at No. 1, 2 and 5 singles, but dropped to 8-5, 1-2 in the Big South.
Bastien Huon and
Fernando Clemente paired for a 6-1 victory at the third doubles position; then
Dustin Werner and
Raphael Calzi earned a 6-4 win at the top post to secure the point.
Julian Farthing and Amadeo Blasco claimed straight-sets victories at the fifth and first singles positions to put the Lancers in front 2-1 before
Gerard Sola leveled the match for the Camels at two-all with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Raisei Sakai at the fourth spot. Sola improved to 9-4 in singles play this spring, 8-4 at the fourth position.
After Guilherme Sergio pushed the Lancers back in front with a 6-1, 7-5 win over
Bastien Huon at number two singles. Calzi and
Ted Williams provided the winning points – both after dropping the first set – for the defending Big South champs.
Campbell begins a four-match home stand Tuesday against Cal-Riverside.
