BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Director of Athletics
Dr. Omar Banks has announced the hiring of Alisha Tucker as Deputy Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services at Campbell University. Tucker joins the Fighting Camel staff after serving the last 15 years as Associate A.D. for Compliance and Student Health at Norfolk State.
Bringing over two decades of professional experience from the Power 5 and FCS level, Tucker will oversee compliance, student-athlete support, athletic training, strength and conditioning, as well as lead the department's diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. She will also have sport supervisor responsibilities and serve on campus committees.
"As an administrator with over 20 years of intercollegiate athletics experience, we are ecstatic to welcome Alisha to the Campbell family," said Dr. Banks. "She is an outstanding leader and student advocate, having been a former student-athlete herself. She's a perfect fit for our culture of collaboration, communication and innovation and am glad she is joining our team."
At Norfolk State, Tucker provided oversight for the compliance office and all student-athlete health and well-being initiatives. In addition, she served as the Senior Woman Administrator and Title IX Coordinator for the athletics department and supervised the NSU bowling, volleyball and softball programs.
Tucker joined the NSU staff in 2006 as the Assistant Athletics Director/Compliance before the creation of the student services area in 2010. She oversaw student services within athletics through 2019 before taking on her latest role.
She began her career in athletics administration at Michigan State, and had stops at Villanova, Richmond and Marshall before moving to NSU.
Tucker is involved in administrative activities on the national level. She served as the interim chair of the NCAA's Accelerating Athletics Academic Success Program (AASP), which grants funds to HBCUs and other identified universities in support of academic programming for student-athletes. Tucker was instrumental in helping NSU secure $1 million in grant funding for the department's initiatives for student-athletes.
A Hampton, Va. native, Tucker was a track and field athlete at Hampton High School where she still holds records. She competed as a Division I student-athlete at Virginia where she also was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
She received her Masters of Education in Sports Management from Old Dominion University and is currently completing her PhD in Higher Education Administration at Old Dominion.
