BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell dropped only one set in singles play Friday and defeated UNC Wilmington 6-1 in the Camels' home opener at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
 
UNCW (1-1) won the doubles point, but Campbell (2-3) earned five straight-sets wins in singles to earn its second victory in the last three outings.
 
Rhona Cook, Sandra Gines, Mariana Ossa and Anna-Marie Kopecka won in straight sets to provide the deciding points in the dual match victory.  After Mialy Ranaivo closed out Sasha Belaya at number one singles in a third set super tiebreaker, Marissa Pennings completed the afternoon 7-6, 7-6 over Zoe Huffman at the second position.
 
Pennings and Ossa also combined for a 7-5 win at the second singles spot.

Campbell returns to action Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. first serve at Elon.
