COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 49 South Carolina defeated Campbell 7-0 Sunday at the Carolina Indoor Tennis Center.
The Gamecocks (4-4) won a pair of doubles matches in tiebreakers to claim the point. Camel freshmen
Marissa Pennings and
Mialy Ranaivo pushed the nation's ranked doubles team to a tiebreak before falling at the second position.
Sandra Gines and
Mariana Ossa also forced a tiebreaker at number three doubles.
In singles play, the Gamecocks, whose lineup features three nationally ranked competitors, did not lose a set. The nation's top-ranked singles player, Sarah Hamner, defeated
Rhona Cook 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. Ranaivo and Gines also dropped matches against nationally-ranked foes in singles competition.
Campbell (2-5) continues its spring schedule Wednesday with a 2:00 p.m. first serve at Coastal Carolina.
