CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Presbyterian rallied to defeat Campbell 4-2 in the Big South Conference men's tennis semifinal round Friday at the Marion Diehl Tennis Center.
The third-seeded Blue Hose (15-9) will meet top seed Gardner-Webb (16-6) in Saturday's 3:00 p.m. championship match.
Gardner-Webb, Campbell and PC shared the Big South regular season title with identical 4-1 records. Tiebreaking procedures slotted the Camels into the second seed in the conference tournament.
Last month, PC defeated the Camels 4-3 at Clinton, S.C. On Friday, PC avenged a 4-3 loss to Campbell in the 2022 semifinal round.
The Camels (14-7) won the doubles point behind victories from
Gustavs Lukstins and
Noe Macquart at No. 2 and
Tomas Balazi and
Robin Angles in the third match.
However, the Blue Hose quickly regained the lead through straight-set wins at the first, fifth and sixth singles positions.
Balazi secured a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles to draw Campbell within 3-2 on the team ledger. However, Sebastian Dominquez rallied to earn a 3-set win over Campbell freshman
Lukas Steffen at No. 3 for the deciding point.
Campbell junior
Benjamin Maes led PC's Denim Yadav 4-3 in the third set, but the match was not finished after the team score was decided.
Over the last two seasons, Campbell has compiled a 30-13 overall record, 11-1 vs. the Big South in regular season dual matches.
