Pedro Palma was named assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach at Campbell University in August 2016.
Palma joined the Fighting Camels after spending the previous year as head tennis coach at Highland Country Club in Fayetteville. He also served as head coach at The Dunes Club in Rhode Island.
A graduate of ISCEM with a B.S. in communication, and a M.Sc. in Business Management from ISCTE Business School, he served as assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach at Methodist University in 2015.
A former nationally-ranked player in his native Portugal, Palma has also coached at the Lisboa Racket Club in Lisbon. He holds United States Tennis Association high performance certification and adult coaching certificates as well as being a certified coach by the Portuguese Tennis Federation. He is fluent in Portuguese, English and Spanish and also possesses strong communication skills in French.
“To have Pedro join us as a full-time assistant, we are thrilled by what he has to offer,” said head coach David Johnson.
Palma joins a Fighting Camel program that has reached the Big South Championship finals twice in the last three years under Johnson, who is entering his 19th season as head coach in 2016-17.
“It is a great honor to be part of the Campbell family and especially to support Coach Johnson as his first full-time assistant coach,” said Palma. “Hopefully my true enthusiasm and passion for tennis will be a good help in this new season. The expectations are high and we hope that we can live up to it.”
