Katie McAlpine was announced as a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the Fighting Camels' softball program in October of 2017. She will assist in all aspects of the program, including middle infield play, hitting and video coordination.
McAlpine is a 2008 graduate of Notre Dame, where she studied business administration and earned a double major in marketing and psychology. She was a four-year member of the Irish softball program, serving as team captain in 2007 and 2008.
McAlpine earned first team all-Big East accolades in 2005 and second team honors in 2006 and 2007. The Tempe, Ariz., native helped lead Notre Dame to a 2005 Big East Regular Season title and a 2006 Big East Tournament Championship.
She continued her education at Grand Canyon University, where she earned a Master’s of Education in special education in 2014. During and after her graduate studies, McAlpine has been a teacher, as well as a softball coach in Georgia, Arizona and Texas.
McAlpine started out her coaching career at Grand Canyon, where she served as a volunteer assistant softball coach from January to May of 2010.
In addition to her first year of graduate school in 2011, McAlpine worked as an assistant coach for Scottsdale Community College’s softball team. She was also the assistant coach of the Mizuno Storm Softball 16U team, which is based out of Phoenix.
In 2012, McAlpine worked at St. Anne Pacelli Catholic School in Columbus, Ga., working half the year as instructional support and half as a substitute teacher. She also served as the assistant varsity softball coach for the Vikings during the 2012 season.
During her final two years of graduate school, McAlpine taught at Copperas Cove Independent School District (2013) and the Kyrene School District (2014). She also served as the volunteer assistant coach for the Mountain Pointe High School softball team in Phoenix, Ariz.
Most recently, McAlpine was an elementary interventionist for K-5 at the Martin Walker Elementary School in Copperas Cove, Texas, during the 2014-15 academic year.
