Marc Benjamin

Marc Benjamin joined the Fighting Camels' softball program in July of 2017 as an Assistant Coach. He comes to the Creek from Barton Community College, where he served as the head coach of the Cougar softball program for four years. He will work with all aspects of defense, as well as assisting with travel and recruiting for the Camels.

During his tenure with the Cougar softball program, he won 138 games, notching a .670 winning percentage. In 2015, he coached his team to a 51-8 record, a No. 9 national ranking, and the program’s first Region VI title since 1993. The 2015 squad fell short of advancing to the NJCAA Division I tournament after losing in the District E Championship. Following the season, he was named the Co-Coach of the Year.

Over his four seasons in Great Bend, Kan., he coached 19 all-conference players, three NFCA all-Americans, two conference MVPs, one freshman of the year and one NJCAA all-American. Benjamin also emphasized academic achievement among his players, as his team’s overall GPA improved from 3.24 to 3.44 from 2014 to 2015.

Prior to his time at Barton, Benjamin served as an assistant coach at Southern Utah in Cedar City. He spent three seasons with the Thunderbirds, where his primary duties included running pitching and batting drills at practices and preparing the field for games and practices. Benjamin passed the NCAA recruiting exam during all three years at Southern Utah.

Benjamin helped to turn the program from 10 wins to 25 wins during his tenure, including three consecutive conference tournament appearances. At SUU, he coached a Summit League Conference MVP, an Easton All-American and 13 all-conference honorees.

A former standout athlete, Benjamin got his start on the baseball diamond, playing collegiately for Cerritos College (1991-92) and Utah (1993-94). During his time with the Utes, he batted .317 and notched nine doubles, two triples, three home runs and 55 RBI.  In his senior year, he finished in the top-10 in the Western Athletic Conference with 15 stolen bases.

Benjamin played professional softball overseas after graduating from Utah in 1994 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in political science. He played for 14 years, including stints with teams in New Zealand and Australia. He competed at the highest level of competition for me and was a part of teams that recorded top-10 finishes at numerous international tournaments.

His brother, Mike, spent 13 years playing professional baseball in the major leagues, spending time in the Giants, Phillies, Red Sox and Pirates organizations.Â
