Jeff Klaves

Campbell throws have excelled under Jeff Klaves since he joined the Campbell track & field coaching staff in April of 2017. Campbell throwers have broken six school records and have claimed three Big South titles across the indoor and outdoor season since 2017-18. Recently, Klaves coached standout Patience Marshall at the USATF U-20 Championships in Miramar, Fla. Marshall shattered both the school and Big South outdoor shot put record with a first-place mark of 16.05m (52' 8") at the event.

Jeff Klaves entered his first full year with the Campbell track & field program in 2018 after being hired in April of 2017. A 2010 graduate of Campbell University, Klaves will serve as an Assistant Track and Field Coach, working primarily with throws, multis and pole vault as CU looks to add more events to its repertoire.

Klaves, a USATF-certified Level I Track Coach and Level II Throws Coach, returns to the Creek after a four-year stint as the athletic director and track & field/cross country head coach for Hobbton High School (Newton Grove, N.C.) from 2013-17. Klaves started Hobbton's track program and served as the head coach during the 2010-11 season to total five years with the Wildcats.

During his tenure at Hobbton, Klaves led the Wildcats to 10 Carolina 1A Conference championships, including 20 state medalists and four state champions across four different events (shot put, discus, 200m and 300m). He was named Coach of the Year 13 times and had eight student-athletes that went on to receive Division I or Division II athletic scholarships.

Following his first season at Hobbton, Klaves accepted a position as a Graduate Assistant Coach at East Tennessee State University, serving under legendary head coach David Walker. Klaves worked primarily with ETSU's men's and women's distance runners and helped lead a Buccaneer squad that won the A-Sun outdoor track & field title in 2012. His most accomplished athlete at ETSU was Anja Claussnitzer, who qualified for the 2012 NCAA outdoor track & field regionals in the women's 800m.

After receiving his master's degree in Sport Management from ETSU, Klaves was hired as an Assistant Cross Country Coach at Florida Gulf Coast. In his one season with the Eagles, he helped guide the men's cross country team to its best finish at the conference championships in program history. The Eagles also earned their first-ever South Regional ranking in the USTFCCCA polls and had a student-athlete named to the NCAA All-South Region Team. On the women's side, FGCU notched four top-five finishes on the year and sent a pair of runners to regionals.

In his time at Campbell, Klaves was a four-year letter-winner, an NCAA Academic All-American and a two-time All-Atlantic Sun track and field performer. He sits 10th on Campbell's all-time top-10 list with a personal-best mark of 1:53.93 in the men's outdoor 800m. Klaves graduated from CU with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics in the spring of 2010.
