Biography

Slated to play in the top portion of the singles lineup… Coming off shoulder surgery last summer, but has recovered well… Led team in singles wins as a freshman… Carries a 24-8 career singles record into the 2005 spring season.

Fall 2004:  Had an outstanding fall season… Won her first seven singles matches, finishing with a 7-1 record… Was undefeated in three matches at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational, including 3-set win over VCU’s Vera Petrashevich (1-6, 7-6, 7-5)... Advanced to the A-Flight final without losing a set in 3 matches at the Charleston Southern Fall Invitational, but the match was rained out… Only loss of fall came against Mississippi State’s Zsuzsanna Fodor at the Wolfpack Invitational… Went 2-2 in doubles with Kathleen Rollet… Advanced to A-Flight Doubles final at Charleston Southern…

2003-04:  Earned Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team honors after compiling a 15-5 singles record in dual matches, (primarily at number-three)… Finished year with a 17-7 overall singles mark… Opened spring season by winning 7 of her first 8 singles matches… Also won 5 of her final 6 singles contests during the year with the only loss coming to nationally-ranked Cristina Arribas of VCU… Had a 9-11 overall doubles record, including 7-9 record with partner Iva Stojancev…

Personal:  Georgiana Camelia Marta was ranked among the top 10 juniors in her age class in her native Romania… Also played basketball in high school… Born May 10, 1984 in Constanta, Romania... Daughter of Florin and Paraschiva Marta… Major is psychology.
