Austin Burnette

Austin Burnette

Austin Burnette was named to the Campbell and John Andrzejek’s coaching staff in May 2025. Burnette, a 2019 Campbell alum, returns to his alma mater following two seasons as an assistant coach at North Alabama.

“Campbell has a rich basketball history, and it was vital to me to have a staff that would appreciate and celebrate everything that we have accomplished here already,” head coach John Andrzejek said. “Austin played on some of the best Camel teams in program history and he knows this place like the back of his hand. He loves this community and was eager to come back and be a part of what we’re building!

“Austin also has been a part of a great coaching staff at North Alabama. He is a talented connector, a proven mentor to young people and a real up-and-comer in this profession. I’m thrilled to bring Austin back to The Creek!”

Burnette played for the Camels from 2016-19, appearing in 25 games. Burnette’s playing career was marred by injuries, causing him to miss the 2017-18 season, and suffered a career-ending injury as a senior in 2019.

Burnette’s time as a player saw Campbell win the Big South regular season title and appear in three postseason tournaments: the 2019 NIT, the 2018 CBI, and the 2017 CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

As a coach, Burnette finished his recent two-year tenure at North Alabama on a high note, posting a 24-11 record as ASUN regular season champions, and reaching the NIT for the first time in program history. Burnette worked with three all-conference performers for the Lions, with Jacari Lane earning a spot on the first team, Taye Fields earned Newcomer of the Year and second-team all-conference, and Daniel Ortiz earning third-team honors.

Burnette helped guide Jacari Lane to the program’s all-time leading scorer at the D1 level, as he earned first-team honors in back-to-back seasons. Lane finished his junior year averaging 17.3 points per game.

Burnette joined the North Alabama staff after serving as the Director of Player Development/Video Coordinator at Florida International University during the 2022-23 season. He organized and oversaw player personnel schedules, assisted with travel logistics, supervision of graduate assistants/student managers, provided academic support, coordinated with compliance, led scouting reports and film edits/exchanges during his time at FIU.

Before FIU, Burnette was an assistant coach of a premier prep school, Hargrave Military Academy. The Tigers finished with a record of 37-5, while finishing ranked No. 4 nationally amongst all prep schools. Burnette was no stranger to Hargrave as he returned after winning the 2016 National Championship as a player.

Prior to Hargrave Military Academy, Burnette served as a Graduate Assistant at Florida International University under head coach Jeremy Ballard. As a graduate assistant at FIU, he was responsible for game and scouting preparation, oversaw undergraduate managers and assisted in player development. Burnette’s previous coaching experience also includes a stint at University of North Georgia (19-20) as an assistant coach. His responsibilities consisted of player development, life skills, scouts, game planning and recruiting.

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Burnette earned his undergraduate degree from Campbell University and his master’s degree from Florida International University. He has a son, Ace Burnette.
