Jonathan Hodges

Jonathan Hodges heads into his second year as linebackers coachat Campbell.

In his first season at Campbell, Hodges helped guide the Cameldefense to improvements in total offense, points per game, rushingyards per game and passing yards per game. Those strides includedimprovements of 62.3 yards of total offense and 54.7 yards rushingfewer per game.

Linebacker Matt Farris was one of two Camels on the defensiveside to be named honorable mention All-PFL.

Farris led Campbell in tackles and finished 21st in the PFL with77. The redshirt junior added 4.5 tackles for loss, a sack, aninterception and a forced fumble, tying a school record with 14tackles against Charleston Southern. Farris added two tackles forloss with a sack against PFL co-champion Marist and intercepted apass in Campbell's win over UVa.-Wise.

In two seasons at Johnson C. Smith, Hodges was responsible fordeveloping and improving the linebacking unit, while assisting inspecial teams coordination and recruiting at JCSU, helping guideJohnson C. Smith to back to back winning records for the first timein 40 years. The team also concluded the season on a four-gamewinning streak, its longest since 1996.

Hodges coached the Golden Bulls’ top two tacklers inMichael Coats and Quinton Toomer in 2011, with both producingcareer bests in tackles, sacks, interceptions, and fumblerecoveries. Hodges also helped JCSU secure its first postseasonvictory since 1969 with a win in the Pioneer Bowl.

Hodges’s coaching career began at Millbrook High School inRaleigh, N.C., as the training camp assistant in 2004. He thenmoved on to Wake Forest-Rolesville High where he served as thevarsity linebackers coach and junior varsity special teamscoordinator (2008-09). Prior to joining the staff at JCSU, Hodgesinterned under the Director of Athletics at Cedar Shoals High inAthens, Ga. (2010-11).

Hodges is a dedicated member of the American Alliance forHealth, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAPHERD) on thenational and local levels.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education fromAppalachian State University in 2008 and a master’s degreefrom the University of Georgia in Sports Administration in2011.

Hodges and his wife, Joann, make their home in Charlotte.
