After his fifth season on the Campbell football staff, Will Phillippi continues as the Camels’ recruiting coordinator and safeties coach. As one of the youngest recruiting coordinators in Division I football, Phillippi primarily recruits the 704/980 area code (Charlotte, N.C.), along with York County (Rock Hill, S.C.), and the 864 area code (Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C.). He was also tasked with coordinating all Mike Minter Football team and prospect camps in the summer of 2015.
In 2015, Phillippi coached the safeties and assisted in defensive play calling. The 2015 defense finished fifth in the nation in total defense, ninth in scoring defense, seventh in pass efficiency defense and ninth in rush defense, all Campbell records.
Phillippi was recently awarded the 2015 “Cammy” for Campbell University’s Assistant Coach of the Year, decided by the Campbell University Athletic Department.
After a year on Mike Minter’s staff, Phillippi was named Campbell’s recruiting coordinator, heading all of the Camels’ recruiting efforts in his new role. He coached the CU safeties in 2013 and assisted in defensive play calling.
In 2014, the Campbell defense set program records for interception return touchdowns, interception return yards, and pass breakups, while improving the Camels' production in total interceptions and tackles.
Phillippi joined the CU coaching staff in 2011 as the outside linebackers coach after finishing his Campbell playing career and working as a student assistant in the spring of his senior year in 2011. In 2011 the Camels finished 6-5 overall and 5-3 in Pioneer Football League play, enjoying their highest win total and first winning season since restarting the program in 2008.
In 2012, Phillippi worked as the rush linebackers coach, as Campbell posted its second most sacks and tackles for loss in the program’s modern era.
He was a member of the CU football team from 2007-10 and earned a letter in his last two seasons. Phillippi earned the FCA Award by the Campbell Athletic Department in the spring of 2011. He graduated in the spring of 2011 with a degree in Exercise Sports Science. Phillippi was also President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes his senior year. Phillippi earned a Masters of Education in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration is Exercise Science in May 2013.
The Charlotte native has also gained coaching experience at several summer football camps, including Clemson, Tennessee, Navy, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oregon, LSU and USA Football, among others.
Phillippi is happily engaged to Julie Davison and resides in Buies Creek.
