McMillan Leads Stetson to 69-57 Win
Over Campbell
DeLAND, FLA. -- Alexis McMillan tied a career-high with 21
points, and added eight steals, seven rebounds, and six assists as
Stetson defeated visiting Campbell 69-57 in an Atlantic Sun
Conference game Saturday evening at the Edmunds Center.
The Hatters (4-13, 2-6 A-Sun) posted their first two-game
winning streak of the season, while Campbell (4-12, 1-5 A-Sun) fell
for the 10th time in its last 11 games.
Stetson trailed 31-26 at halftime but came back to take a
42-40 lead on a baseline jumper from Josef McNeal. Campbell never
retook the lead but the Camels stayed close, and trailed 56-55 in
the final two minutes of the game. A McNeal rebound tip-in off a
Ravii Givens miss sparked a 7-0 Stetson run. E.J. Gordon then
blocked a Tarick Johnson lay-up attempt, and finished the play off
with a dunk on the offensive end. Gordon got another dunk on the
next possession following McMillan's record-tying eighth steal of
the night.
The Hatters went 6-of-6 from the free throw line down the
stretch to cap off their third consecutive home victory.
Johnson led the Camels with 17 points on 7-of-20 shooting from
the floor. Jonte' Edwards picked up 11 points and nine
rebounds.
Campbell shot 44 percent from the floor, but the 57 points was
a season low by a Hatter opponent this year.
McMillan, the NCAA Division I leader in steals, tied his own
school record with his eight-steal performance. Gordon and McNeal
each added 12 points for the Hatters.
Campbell hosts Mercer on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. [Box Score]
