Hot Shooting UCF Downs Campbell 98-69

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Ed Dotson led five UCF double figure scorers with 20 points and the Golden Knights shot 63 percent from the floor in a 98-69 win over Campbell on Tuesday night at Carter Gym.
UCF (16-7, 8-2 A-Sun) took a 41-27 lead into half-time, then shot 66 percent in the second period, while knocking down a season-high 14 three-point field goals in 25 attempts.
Roberto Morentin added 12 points and eight rebounds for UCF, while Ray Abellard had 12 points and 10 assists. William Bakanowsky (11) and Marcus McGee (10) both came off the bench to score in double digits for the Golden Knights, who won their sixth game in the last seven outings.
Tarick Johnson led four Campbell (4-16, 1-9) double-figure scorers with 20 points, plus seven rebounds. Jonte' Edwards added 15 points, 13 in the second half, while Dominique Klein and Brooks Lee chipped in 10 apiece.
UCF jumped to a 14-5 lead, but the Camels cut the margin to 20-18 with 10 minutes left in the first half on consecutive threes from Lee and Robby Dupre. CU, however, missed its next five shots and UCF followed with an 11-2 run within a 21-9 flurry to close the period.
Dotson had 14 of his career-high 20 points in the opening period. The Golden Knights then opened the second half on a 13-2 flurry and led by as many as 32 points late in the contest.
UCF made 10-of-15 threes in the second half and held a commanding 41-20 advantage on the boards for the night.
The Golden Knights set a school record with 32 assists (on 39 field goals) and fell one trey shy of the school-record 15 they notched at Campbell during the 1999-00 season.
Campbell shot 50 percent (14-28) in the second half, but just 44 percent (24-55) for the game.
The Camels lost their fifth-straight game heading into Friday's 8:00 p.m. match-up at Florida Atlantic. UCF hosts Gardner-Webb on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
