Basketball Falls at Florida

RATON, Fla. -- Florida Atlantic University
defeated Campbell University, 83-56, Friday night in Boca Raton,
FL. Avery Headley scored a career-high 20 points to lead six Owls
in double-figures. Headley and Nick Neumann posted double-doubles
for FAU.
FAU
(7-16, 3-8 Atlantic Sun Conference) jumped out quickly on Campbell
(4-17, 1-10 A-Sun) and led 22-8 with 9:47 left in the half. Chris
Thomas scored eight points off the bench during that opening burst.
The rest of the first half seemed to belong to Avery Headley, who
finished the half with 15 points on 7-for-8 shooting. In all, FAU
shot 56.7 percent from the floor in the half on its way to a 39-20
lead.
In
the second half, FAU continued to dominate. Campbell did manage a
10-2 run in the first 4:21 of the second half, but the Owls
responded with a 10-0 run to lead 59-35 with 13:28 left in the
game. It was all FAU the rest of the way as the Owls built as much
as a 29-point lead with 4:12 left.
Jeff
Cowans finished with 15 points. Earnest Crumbley had 12 points and
dished out a season-high nine assists. Jeff Hamilton and Thomas
finished with 11 while Neumann had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Headley finished with a game-high 12 rebounds.
FAU
shot 49.2 percent from the field after going 32-for-65. Campbell
managed just 43.2 percent. FAU controlled the boards with a 42-23
advantage.
Tarick
Johnson led Campbell with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Corey Parker
tossed in a career-high 16.
Florida
Atlantic next plays at Stetson, February 13, in DeLand, Fla., while
Campbell will return to Buies Creek to host Lipscomp on Wednesday,
