Mercer
Defeats Campbell 90-72 In Atlantic Sun Men's
Basketball

Odoms scored 21 points and Mercer defeated Campbell 90-72 in
Atlantic Sun action Thursday night at the University Center.
Will Emerson and Wesley Duke added 16 points each for the Bears
(9-4, 5-2), who won their second-straight game. Duke had 14
rebounds and Emerson nine as Mercer held a 44-31 advantage on the
glass.
Damitruis Coleman, who entered the game as the nation's leader with
8.5 assists per game, dealt 10. Duke blocked four shots.
Maurice Latham led Campbell (2-11) with 18 points and 10
rebounds. Ruell Pringle contributed 16, including 8-8 from the
free throw line. Russ Gibson scored a career-high 13, while
Comerlee Poole added 12, plus eight boards.
Duke's alleyoop dunk and tip-in capped a 22-2 Mercer run midway
through the first half and gave the Bears a 41-22 edge with 3:09 to
play. Odoms scored 15 and Duke 10 as the Bears took a 46-30 lead
at the break.
Pringle's transition lay-in cut the Mercer gap to 66-59, but
Tyler McCurry and Odoms hit three-pointers in the next two
possessions for the Bears and the Camels were unable to get
closer.
Mercer turned 24 Campbell turnovers into 32 points and
converted 21 offensive rebounds into 23 points.
The Bears hit 23-33 from the free throw line (.667), while
Campbell made 16-21 from the stripe. Odoms canned 8-9 from the
stripe.
Campbell returns to action Saturday at 4:15 p.m., at pre-season
A-Sun favorite Georgia State. [Box
