Jacksonville Defeats Campbell 78-65 In Atlantic
Sun Men's Basketball
JACKSONVILLE, FLA.
B.J. Surry scored 18 points to lead Jacksonville to a 78-65
Atlantic Sun men's basketball victory over Campbell Saturday at
Swisher Gym.
Campbell shot just
8-25 (.320) from the free throw line and the Dolphins (11-8, 7-5)
turned 24 Camel turnovers into 33 points. Campbell (2-16, 0-11)
lost its 13th-straight game and dropped its 29th-consecutive
Atlantic Sun road game.
Antonio Cool and Jesse
Kimbrough added 14 points each, while Haminn Quaintance scored 10
with eight rebounds, five blocks and five steals for Jacksonville,
which won its sixth game in seven outings.
Maurice Latham led the
Camels with 17 points, 15 in the second half, on 8-of-9 shooting.
Diego Aguiar added 11 off the bench. Comerlee Poole grabbed a
career-high 14 rebounds.
Campbell was able to
cut a six-point half-time deficit to 43-40 with 12:54 to go, but
never got closer. A 10-0 run extended the Dolphin lead to 67-50
with 3:57 as Kimbrough, Quaintance and Surry finished driving
layups.
Jacksonville led 34-28
at the break, converting 16 Campbell first-half turnovers into 22
points. Campbell shot 52 percent (13-25) from the floor in the
opening half, while JU hit 51.9 percent (14-27) of its
attempts.
Campbell took a 15-11
lead on Colin Hunt's bucket underneath, capping an 11-2 run in the
process. JU, however, scored 13-straight points with Cool's three
from the right wing pushing the Dolphins in front 24-15 with 7:29
left.
Jacksonville shot 48.2
percent (27-56) from the field, including 6-of-10 from 3-point
range. The Dolphins made 18-25 free throws (.720) and had just
four second-half turnovers (16 for the game).
Campbell held a 42-33
advantage on the boards, including 23 on the offensive glass. The
Camels shot 45 percent (27-60) for the game, 3-9 from 3-point
territory.
Campbell returns to
action Monday in a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at Stetson. [Box
