East Carolina Tops Campbell 5-2
CARY, N.C. -- East Carolina swept the doubles matches and went on
to a 5-2 women's tennis victory over Campbell Tuesday at the Cary
Tennis Center.
The
match was the first of three Campbell will play at the venue this
year, including dates with American (Mar. 11) and Lafayette (Mar.
16).
With only five healthy players, Campbell defaulted the number three
doubles and number six singles matches to East Carolina (7-2). ECU
dropped only four games in winning the top two doubles matches.
In
singles play, Campbell's Georgiana Marta improved to 4-2 on the
spring, 11-3 on the year, with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Gillie
Bailey at the top position. Campbell's Iva Stojancev outlasted
Luiza Borges (6-3, 3-6, 4-2 retired) at number four singles and
moved her overall record to 7-3, 4-2 in dual matches.
ECU
collected straight sets wins at the second and fifth singles
positions. At the third match, ECU's Raluca Baicu rallied for a
4-6, 6-0, 6-4 win over Campbell freshman Nina Surviladze.
Campbell (2-4) returns to action on Tuesday with a 1:00 p.m. start
against High Point, on campus at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
