Falls In Overtime at Lipscomb 71-65 in
Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball
NASHVILLE, TENN.
James Poindexter scored six of his 19 points in overtime
and Lipscomb held off Campbell 71-65 in Atlantic Sun Conference
men's basketball action Thursday night at Allen Arena.
Campbell's Russ Gibson
had a chance to give the Camels their first win since December 11,
but his runner in the lane at the end of regulation fell just
short.
Lipscomb hit 3-of-4
three-pointers two by Poindexter and one from Labrian Lyons
-- in the overtime session to take a 66-60 lead with 2:12 left and
the Bisons never trailed thereafter.
Poindexter hit 5-of-16
threes on the night and Brian Fisk added 17 points and seven
assists for the Bisons (13-11, 8-9).
Ruell Pringle and Diego
Aguiar led Campbell (2-22, 0-17) with 15 each. Jake Wohlfeil added
11 points and four assists, while Comerlee Poole had 10.
Campbell dropped its
19th-straight game and also saw its losing streak in A-Sun road
games reach 31 since a January 2002 victory at Jacksonville
State.
The Camels' last five
losses have come by a total of 23 points. CU has had a chance to
take the lead in the final seconds of regulation in each of the
last three games.
After Lipscomb led by
one at halftime (23-22), the lead changed hands 17 times in the
final 25 minutes of play.
Campbell used 7-0 spurt
to take a 47-41 lead with 8:12 remaining in regulation, but the
Bisons rallied to take a 50-49 edge on Poindexter's triple with
4:30 to go.
The Bisons led 57-55
before Poole's bucket off Pringle's inbound pass knotted the score
at 57 with 10.8 seconds to go. Lipscomb had a chance to take the
last shot, but Fisk lost the ball under the basket with seven
seconds to go, setting up Gibson's last second effort.
Campbell finished the
game shooting 42.1 percent (24-57) from the floor, while Lipscomb
hit 39.4 percent (26-66) from the floor. The Bisons made 10-36
threes (.278), compared to 3-of-11 for the Camels.
Lipscomb made 9-11 free
throws, while Campbell converted just 14-22 (.636) from the
stripe.
Lipscomb jumped to a
23-10 lead over the first 12:54 of play behind Fisk's nine points.
However, the Camels closed the half on a 12-0 run to cut the gap to
23-22 at the break.
Campbell shot just 34.5
percent (10-29) from the floor in the first 20 minutes, while the
Bisons hit just 36 percent (9-25) of their attempts. Lipscomb
missed its final nine field goals of the first period and had four
turnovers in the span.

their two-game tip to Nashville Saturday in a 6:15 p.m. (CST)
