Valtin Places Third to Pace Campbell at Lou Onesty Invitataional

EARLYSVILLE, Va. - Alicia Valtin finished in 18:08.46, placing third to lead the Campbell Women to a fifth place result Saturday at the Lou Onesty Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia. The men, who finished 7th, were lead by Jeremy Helf with a 25:44.51 in the 8K race, good enough for 28th overall.
Valtin, last weeks Atlantic Sun runner of the week, came into the meet after setting a new course record in the Campbell Invitational. She again put her stamp on the Campbell record books as she finished in the fourth fastest 5K time in the history of CU cross country program.
Helf also made his mark on the CU records as he posted the 10th fastest 8K time in Campbell history, besting his own previous mark of 25:50.
The women were also helped by two other top-25 performances. Jill Stapleton finished 14th overall with a time of 18:43.53, while Tara Dressler was 21st overall in a time of 18:56.55.
The men got another solid performance by Verelle Taylor-Wyatt, the freshman who finished second in last week's Campbell Invitational turned in a top-50 performance finishing No. 43 overall in a time of 26:30.93.
The teams are idle this weekend as they prepare for the Great American Cross Country Festival Sept. 24 in Cary, N.C.
