GREENSBORO, N.C. Maite Ortiz de
Pinedo is tied for sixth place individually and Campbell sits
eighth in the team standings after Monday's first round of the UNCG
Starmount Fall Classic.
Ortiz de Pinedo shot a
one-over-par 72 on Monday, just two strokes off a trio of golfers,
who finished the round at one-under 70. East Carolina teammates Emelie Lind
and Amber Littman and Susan Nam of Florida International were the
only golfers in the 69-player field to break par on the par-71,
6265-yard Starmount layout.
Abby Bools of ECU and Maria
Ronderos of Miami are tied for fourth place at even-par 71,
followed by Ortiz de Pinedo, Campbell freshman Sandra Angulo,
Danielle Jackson of Stetson and Jordan Craig of Wake
Forest.
East Carolina leads the field at
even-par 284, 15 strokes ahead of host UNC Greensboro (299). Florida International is third
(300), followed by Stetson (302), Elon (304), Miami (306), Winthrop
(307), Campbell (308), High Point (313), James Madison (315) and
Ball State (319).
Angulo and senior Emily
Simpson are playing for Campbell as individuals in the event and do
not count toward the team score. Simpson is tied for 20th place
following Monday's five-over 76.
Campbell junior Veronika Falathova and
sophomore Mary Mattson both shot a seven-over 78s and are tied for
36th place. Sophomore Belen
Diaz Cisneros is tied for 48th at nine-over 80. Freshman Sarah Bejgrowicz withdrew
from the first round.
Eleven teams
and 14 individuals make up the field for the 36-hole tournament at
Starmount, the former home of the PGA's Greater Greensboro
Open. Tuesday's final round
will be a shotgun start beginning at 9:30
a.m.
