NASHVILLE,
Tenn.-Belmont used a dominate first half en route to a 57-34
victory over Campbell Thursday night in the Curb Event
Center.
Shaunda
Strayhorn led three Bruins (20-5, 14-1) in double figures with 14
points, while Alysha Clark and Amber Rockwell each had 10. Belmont
outscored the Lady Camels 39-10 in the first half using runs of
17-0 and 16-4.
Adrienne
Rieley led the Lady Camels (7-19, 5-11) with 14 points and eight
rebounds. The 34 points is the second lowest output in Campbell
history finishing behind the 33 points the Lady Camels scored at
Coastal Carolina on December 11, 2006. Octavia Blackwell scored 11
second half points to join Rieley in double figures.
Campbell
outscored Belmont 24-18 in the second half despite not hitting a
field goal until the 13:25 mark. The Bruins shot just 24.0 percent
from the floor in the second half and committed 14 turnovers, while
Campbell shot 33.3 percent from the floor in the second frame.
The Lady
Camels connected on just 21.6 percent of their shots on the game
and only 12.5 percent from three-point range. The 11 field goals
made were a season low output.
Campbell
forced the Bruins into 24 turnovers with 12 steals led by three
from Lauren Arthur and two apiece from Lindsay Smithberger and
Ashley Williamson.
The
Bruins held Campbell to its lowest first half scoring output of the
season taking a 39-10 lead into the half. The Lady Camels shot just
13.3 percent in the first half connecting on 4-of-30 from the
floor, while the Bruins shot 46.7 percent from the floor but hit
8-of-16 from beyond the arc.
After
Campbell took a 2-0 lead, the Bruins went on a 17-0 run and then
closed the half on a 16-4 run, including a three-pointer by Shaunda
Strayhorn from 27 feet out that banked it at the buzzer.
The Lady
Camels wrap up their two-game swing in the Music City Saturday
afternoon at Lipscomb at 4:00 pm (cst). Campbell defeated the Lady
Bisons 72-56 in the first meeting back on January 25 in Buies
Creek.
