BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Sam Tilly
provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships and broke the
Campbell long jump record at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet on
Saturday and Alicia Valtin broke the Campbell 5000m record at the
Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
Tilly jumped 7.55m (24-09.25
feet) which is the 30th best mark in the country this
year. The mark surpasses Orville Petersons previous jump of 24-02
feet set in 1983. Tilly finished third among collegiate athletes at
the last chance event.
Valtin took a third place finish at
the meet hosted by Notre Dame. She finished the race in 16:48.35,
just six seconds off a provisional bid to the NCAA Championships
and was 42 seconds faster than Heather Lee's previous school record
time of 17:30.59 in 2001. You can watch
