CONWAY, S.C.-Coastal
Carolina swept a doubleheader from Campbell Saturday afternoon in
non-conference softball action at the CCU Softball Field.
Olivia Ghiselli led
Campbell (20-26-1) from the plate going 3-for-6 with an RBI over
the course of the doubleheader, while Amanda Littlejohn went
2-for-4 with an RBI in game two.
Coastal (13-22) jumped
out to a 5-0 lead over the first three innings of game one scoring
single runs in the first and third innings, while plating three in
the second on a pair of home runs.
The Camels scored their
lone run of the game in the fourth inning. Campbell loaded the
bases with nobody out with Courtney Quinn leading off the inning
with a walk, Karlie Love singling and Hilary Wheatley getting hit
by a pitch. Ghiselli brought home Quinn reaching on a fielder's
choice.
Love moved from first
base to the circle and retired six of the first seven batters she
faced, before the Chants scored four runs, only two earned, in the
bottom of the sixth to end the game an inning early.
Brittany Stanley (8-6)
took the loss for Campbell allowing five runs on seven hits in
three innings. Love finished allowing four hits, four runs (two
earned) in 2 2/3 innings.
Coastal took a 3-0 lead
after the first two innings of game two before the Camels rallied
back to tie the game in the sixth.
Shayla Cullum got hit
by a pitch in the third and moved to second on a single by Robin
Leathers. Love singled to center but Cullum was thrown out at the
plate trying to score on the play. Littlejohn doubled down the line
in right field scoring Leathers pulling the score to 3-1.
The Camels tied the
game up in the sixth with an RBI single by Quinn scoring Jessica
Huffman who reached on a fielder's choice. Ghiselli scored the
tying run on a double steal with Quinn. Quinn took off for second
and Ghiselli beat the throw to the plate knotting the score at
3-3.
Allison Cantrell took a
2-2 pitch from Lauren Caviness over the center field wall for a
walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh.
Caviness (9-14) allowed
all four runs, three earned, on six hits and struck out four taking
the loss for the Camels.
Campbell remains out of
conference on Tuesday traveling to Boone, N.C. for a doubleheader
against Appalachian State starting at 3:00 pm.
