CHARLESTON, S.C.-
Lauren Caviness tossed a
complete game four-hitter, but St. Bonaventure's Christine Keleher
tossed a three-hit shutout as the Bonnies defeated Campbell 1-0 in
the first two games Tuesday for the Camels. Charleston Southern
scored four unearned runs rallying from two down taking a 4-2
victory in Campbell's second game of the day.
Shayla Cullum went a
combined 3-for-6 in the two games, while
Robin Leathers was 2-for-5
on the day.
Back-to-back two-out
doubles in the fifth inning by Caitlin Grattan and Ashley Kotz
proved to be the difference in the game against St. Bonaventure
(3-4). Keleher (2-1) struck out eight Camel (12-12-1) batters on
the game, while her counterpart Caviness (5-6) fanned eight and
didn't allow a walk.
Three freshmen recorded
the hits for Campbell with Cullum,
Amanda Littlejohn and
Leathers all reaching base.
In game two, Cullum
gave the Camels a 1-0 lead in the third inning blasting a double
scoring Leathers, who started the two-out rally with a single.
Courtney Quinn extended the
lead to 2-0 with her second home run of the season in the fifth
inning.
The Buccaneers (8-19)
took advantage of an error and a wild pitch on a strikeout to plate
their four unearned runs in the fifth inning. Amanda Noble struck
out on a check swing but reached first base on a wild pitch by CU
starter
Brittany Stanley (4-2).
Following a walk and a fielder's choice, back-to-back walks loaded
the bases and allowed the first run of the inning to score.
Jennifer Brooks then singled home another run tying the game 2-2.
The final two runs of the game scored on a fielding error by the
Camels.
Stanley allowed just
three hits in the loss and struck out seven, but allowed five walks
and a pair of wild pitches. Noble (2-9) yielded seven Campbell hits
and struck out six picking up her second win of the season.
The Camels look to get
back on track tomorrow night at UNC Wilmington. The games have been
pushed back three hours with the doubleheader now starting at 5:00
pm in Wilmington, N.C.
