BUIES CREEK,
N.C.-Following a 12 game road trip, Campbell returns home for a
doubleheader against Longwood Thursday afternoon in non-conference
softball action. First pitch at the Eakes Athletic Complex is
scheduled for 4:00 pm.
The Camels (23-31-1,
5-7 A-Sun) are coming off a pair of losses at No. 23 Virginia Tech
Tuesday night in Blacksburg, Va. (11-1, 7-1), while the Lancers
(15-13) have won five of their last six games including a 3-2
victory at Va. Tech last Wednesday.
Despite the pair of
losses to the Hokies on Tuesday, a couple of Camels etched their
name in the Campbell record books. Junior Lauren Caviness struck
out six batters in game two giving her 166 on the season. The mark
ties her total from last season for the most in a single-season in
Campbell history.
Senior center fielder
Jessica Huffman tied the Campbell single-season stolen base record
with a swipe in the opener against the Hokies. She now has 38 on
the season tying Denelle Hicks' mark set in 1995.
Freshman Shayla Cullum
leads the Camels hitting .347 with six home runs and 27 RBIs. Over
the past 21 games, the Visalia, Calif. native is batting at a .394
clip with four doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs.
Caviness continues to
be the Camels number one pitcher despite a 12-16 record on the
season. The southpaw boasts an ERA of 2.24 and opposing hitters are
only batting .206 off the Fuquay-Varina, N.C. native.
Longwood's lineup
features three players hitting over .300 on the season led by Ryan
Washington's .418 mark. Rachel Mills lead the Lancers in the circle
with a 1.09 ERA and 7-3 record.
The Camels play 10 of
their final 12 games at home including series against North
Carolina State and North Carolina.
