GREENSBORO, N.C.Sam Tilly
continued his strong outdoor season with a first and second place
finish at the International Freedom Games hosted by North Carolina
A&T this past weekend. The Camels won four events and brought
home several top five finishes at the highly competitive
meet.
Tilly soared 7.54
meters to take the long jump title for the third time this season.
Last week Tilly jumped 7.69 meters setting the school record and
garnering Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week honors. His jump this
week ranks 18th best in the nation and is his third NCAA
qualifying mark in the event. Tilly also took second place in the
200m dash with a personal-best and A-Sun season-best 21.68.
Scott Miller won the
3000m race with a personal-best 8:59.25, Verrelle Wyatt brought
home the individual title in the 1500m with a time of 4:05.45 and
Kyle Lingafelt took first place in the pole vault with a
season-best mark of 4.40 meters.
On the women's side,
Silvienne Krosendijik finished third in the long jump (5.68m) and
fifth in the triple jump (11.38m). Both marks were personal bests
and her triple jump leap was just two inches shy of the Campbell
school record.
Louise Vandaele took
third place in the 1500m with a personal-best time of 4:46.26; the
best mark this season for the Camels outside of All-Conference
runner Alicia Valtin.
Valtin will be the lone
Camel in action this week as she travels to Philadelphia, Pa. for
the Penn Relays. The rest of the Fighting Camels will return to the
track May 11-12 for the Atlantic Sun Championships in Johnson City,
Tenn.
