MACON,
Ga.Campbell's Sam Tilly was named Atlantic Sun Male Track
& Field Athlete of the Week for the second-consecutive week and
the fourth time this year after setting an A-Sun best time in the
200 meter dash and the nation's 22nd best mark in the
long jump the league office announced Wednesday morning.
Tilly finished second
in the 200m at the International Freedom Games on Saturday with a
personal-best time of 21.68 seconds.
The Port Charlotte, Fla. native then
moved from the track to the sand and landed his third NCAA
qualifying mark of the season in the long jump. Tilly soared
24-09.00 feet (7.54m) winning the event for the third time in three
chances this outdoor season. In addition to ranking 22nd
in the nation, the mark was fourth best in the East region this
season.
Tilly received his first honor this
year during the indoor season on January 12 after setting three
personal bests and winning two events at the UNC Opener. His second
honor and first of the outdoor season came just three weeks ago
when he posted his first NCAA qualifying mark in the long jump at
the UNC Wilmington Seahawk Invitational.
Tilly's honor is Campbell's seventh of the track & field season
(indoor & outdoor). Senior Alicia Valtin has received two
honors and freshman Bryan Ames has one to go along with Tilly's
four.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday
during the 2007 track season. The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga.,
consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville,
Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf
Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
