Sam Tilly Named A-Sun Track & Field Athlete of the Week for Second-Consecutive Week

MACON, Ga.—Campbell's Sam Tilly was named Atlantic Sun Male Track & Field Athlete of the Week for the second-consecutive week and the fourth time this year after setting an A-Sun best time in the 200 meter dash and the nation's 22nd best mark in the long jump the league office announced Wednesday morning.

Tilly finished second in the 200m at the International Freedom Games on Saturday with a personal-best time of 21.68 seconds.

The Port Charlotte, Fla. native then moved from the track to the sand and landed his third NCAA qualifying mark of the season in the long jump. Tilly soared 24-09.00 feet (7.54m) winning the event for the third time in three chances this outdoor season. In addition to ranking 22nd in the nation, the mark was fourth best in the East region this season.

Tilly received his first honor this year during the indoor season on January 12 after setting three personal bests and winning two events at the UNC Opener. His second honor and first of the outdoor season came just three weeks ago when he posted his first NCAA qualifying mark in the long jump at the UNC Wilmington Seahawk Invitational.

Tilly's honor is Campbell's seventh of the track & field season (indoor & outdoor). Senior Alicia Valtin has received two honors and freshman Bryan Ames has one to go along with Tilly's four.

The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the 2007 track season.
