Caviness and Courtney Quinn were named to the Atlantic Sun Softball
All-Tournament Team the league announced following the championship
game of the tournament Saturday afternoon.
Caviness went 2-1 in the circle with a
1.24 ERA starting all four of the Camels games in the
tournament. The junior southpaw struck out 15 batters
in 22 2/3 innings playing in her final games for Campbell; she will
skip her senior season to focus on school.
Quinn, a junior college transfer, led
Campbell hitting .500 (7-for-14) with four RBIs, two doubles and a
triple. The junior from Glencoe, Ala. posted a .786
slugging percentage and scored three runs.
The All-Tournament Team was voted on
by the coaches and sports information directors of the six teams
involved in the tournament.
Caviness tossed 14 consecutive scoreless
innings with the Camels facing elimination against East Tennessee
State and Stetson on Friday. The Fuquay-Varina, N.C.
native struck out five against the Bucs allowing three hits and
fanned four Hatters allowing six hits. In Campbell's
first elimination game against Mercer she went seven innings
allowing just one earned run and struck out five.
Quinn had a hit in all four of
Campbell's games and multiple hits in 3-of-4. The
right fielder tripled down the right field line against ETSU
driving home a pair of runs in CU's 3-0 victory over the
Bucs. She also stole a base against Stetson to go
along with a 2-for-4 performance from the plate.
No. 1 Stetson came out of the consolation
bracket to defeat No. 2 Gardner-Webb twice today to claim the
championship and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA
Regionals. The Camels finished third, No. 3 ETSU
finished fourth, while No. 4 Lipscomb and No. 6 Mercer failed to
win a game.
