MOINES, Iowa Campbell's
football team (1-7, 0-5 PFL) lost a 45-0 game to Drake (3-4, 1-3
PFL) at historic Drake Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 18. The Bulldogs
had five players rush for touchdowns in getting their first
conference win of the season.
The
Bulldogs, after being held scoreless by the
Campbell defense in the first quarter, started the second quarter
with a made 35-yard field goal from Logan Rees to finish off a
40-yard drive.
After
a defensive stop from the DU defense, the Bulldogs offense drove
down the field and reached the CU two-yard line before Christian Dixon
picked up a loose fumble from Stephen Platek as he was
attempting to reach the goal line on fourth down to give Campbell
the ball back deep in their own territory with 8:46 left in the
second quarter.
The
game remained 3-0 until the end of the second quarter when Drake
capped off an eight-play 63-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown
from Michael
Lahart. The made extra point by Rees made the score 10-0
going into the break.
Drake
added a touchdown to start the second half on a one-yard run from
Platek The made Rees extra point made the score 17-0 with 11:32
left in the third quarter.
Campbell
turned the ball over on the ensuing drive and the Bulldogs quickly
made them drive with two-play 30-yard drive ending in a Tom Kostek 13-yard
touchdown jaunt to make the score 24-0 with 10:31 remaining in the
third quarter.
Patrick Cashmore
crossed the goal line next for Drake on a seven-yard run to make
the score 31-0 at the end of the third quarter.
Cashmore
scored his second rushing touchdown of the game next, this one from
two-yards out, to increase the margin to 38-0 after the made Rees
extra point.
John Patrick Oliver
scored next on a 15-yard run to make it 45-0 after the Rees made
extra point.
Brandon Chandler had
eight tackles to lead the CU defense. Receiver Josh Severns had five
catches for 34 yards to lead the offense. C.J. Oates rushed for 42
yards on 22 carries for the Campbell offense. The Bulldogs' Cady
Spencer totaled five catches and 100 yards on the
day.
Campbell now takes a week
off for a bye before returning home for Homecoming and a game
against Davidson at 1 p.m.
