N.C.-Sophomore forward Lauren Yesh scored all of her team-high 14
points in the second half to lead Campbell women's basketball over
Longwood, 53-42 Saturday afternoon inside the John W. Pope, Jr.
Convocation Center.
The Lady Camels improve to
2-1 on the year while Longwood falls to 2-2 overall.
Yesh added six rebounds in
the win, while Jessica Mack and Kate Cloxton chipped in 10 points
each. Cloxton also notched three steals, two assists and a pair of
rebounds in a career high 26 minutes on the floor. Mack recorded
four dimes, with two steals while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the
free throw line.
Junior center Ashley
Williamson grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to go along with eight
points, and rookie guard Amanda O'Neill added seven points in 25
minutes, also a career high.
Geami Britt and Katelyn Bass
also contributed four rebounds and two points each.
Leading the Lancers was
sophomore forward Cierra Baker with eight points and five rebounds,
while Sierra Fletcher and Becky Fernandes added seven points each
in the loss. The pair combined for nine of the team's 33
rebounds.
Campbell owned the glass for the third
time this season, grabbing 45 as a unit, including 16 offensively,
while turning the ball over a season low 17 times. After scoring 17
points in the first half, CU more than doubled that in the second
stanza, posting 36.
Up 19-17 at the break,
Longwood reeled off a 13-4 run by the 14:45 mark to open the second
half, extending the lead to 11 on a Baker three pointer. By the
nine minute mark, however, the Lady Camels knotted the game at 37
with a 16-5 run of their own that included a pair of Yesh threes
and five points from Cloxton.
A Yesh jumper in the lane
then gave the Lady Camels the lead with 6:30 remaining, their first
since final seconds of the first half.
From there, Campbell closed
out the game on a 14-5 run, making the score 30-10 in favor of the
Lady Camels over the final 15 minutes of the contest.
The Lady Camels will head
back to South Carolina on Monday, taking on former Big South rival
Charleston Southern in a 7 p.m. tilt.
