Campbell Falls To Kennesaw State 67-55 In A-Sun Play

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Kennesaw State's Britteny Henderson scored 28 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead KSU to a 67-55 defeat of Campbell on Monday in Buies Creek, N.C.

Henderson scored 14 in each half and shot an impressive 11-for-13 from the field and 6-of-6 from the line in scoring a game-high 28 points. KSU (13-10, 8-3 A-Sun) Greteya Kelley also proved difficult to guard with 20 points. Kelley also tallied four steals and five assists to tie for the team lead with Ashley Jones.

The Camels (10-14-5-6 A-Sun) received 11 points and seven rebounds from senior Marlena Murphy. Freshman Lauren Yesh tallied all 10 of her points in the first half. Junior Lauren Arthur chipped in nine points and four assists.

Campbell went into the break down by three at 34-31 and then saw the Owls go on a 4-0 run to start the second half before rallying to tie the score on a pair of Murphy layups and three from Arthur. After a Henderson made jumper, senior Maggie Rich tied the score again with a pair of made free throws. After a made layup from Montinique Bullock, CU took its only lead of the second stanza on two made free throws from sophomore Lindsay Smithberger at 45-44. Smithberger would end her evening with six points off the bench.

Henderson's made layup and free throw gave the Owls the lead back briefly until redshirt sophomore Gara Bell tied the score at 47 with a layup. Kelley gave the Owls the lead for good with layup and started a 19-3 rally. Henderson and Kelley combined to score 15 of the team's 19 points during that seven minute stretch. The Camels would end the game on a 5-1 rally but it proved to be too late with Kennesaw State escaping with a 67-55 victory.

Kennesaw State out shot the Camels 52 percent (27-52) to 43 percent (23-54) for the game. CU also had its problems from beyond the arc and went 2-for-11. The Camels had a steady effort from the line at 70 percent (7-for-10) but were outdone by KSU's 80 percent (8-for-10). CU, for only the fifth time this season, was out-rebounded 31-to-30. The game featured 12 tied scores and 10 lead changes.

CU now goes back on the road to take on conference rival Gardner-Webb on Feb. 16 at 6 p.m.

Notes: The Camels now trail the all-time series with Kennesaw State 3-2 since the teams started meeting in 2006 ... the game served as the promotion "Pack It In Pink" to promote breast cancer awareness with 927 fans in attendance.
