Henderson scored 28 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead KSU
to a 67-55 defeat of Campbell on Monday in Buies Creek,
N.C.
Henderson scored 14 in each half and shot an impressive
11-for-13 from the field and 6-of-6 from the line in scoring a
game-high 28 points. KSU (13-10, 8-3 A-Sun) Greteya Kelley also
proved difficult to guard with 20 points. Kelley also tallied four
steals and five assists to tie for the team lead with Ashley
Jones.
The Camels (10-14-5-6 A-Sun) received 11 points and seven rebounds
from senior Marlena Murphy. Freshman
Lauren Yesh tallied all 10 of her points in the
first half. Junior Lauren Arthur chipped in nine
points and four assists.
Campbell went into the break down by three at 34-31 and
then saw the Owls go on a 4-0 run to start the second half before
rallying to tie the score on a pair of Murphy layups and three from
Arthur. After a Henderson made jumper, senior Maggie Rich tied the score again with a pair of made
free throws. After a made layup from Montinique Bullock, CU took
its only lead of the second stanza on two made free throws from
sophomore Lindsay Smithberger at 45-44.
Smithberger would end her evening with six points off the
bench.
Henderson's
made layup and free throw gave the Owls the lead back briefly until
redshirt sophomore Gara Bell tied the
score at 47 with a layup. Kelley gave the Owls the lead for good
with layup and started a 19-3 rally. Henderson and Kelley combined
to score 15 of the team's 19 points during that seven minute
stretch. The Camels would end the game on a 5-1 rally but it proved
to be too late with Kennesaw State escaping with a 67-55
victory.
Kennesaw State out shot the Camels 52 percent
(27-52) to 43 percent (23-54) for the game. CU also had its
problems from beyond the arc and went 2-for-11. The Camels had a
steady effort from the line at 70 percent (7-for-10) but were
outdone by KSU's 80 percent (8-for-10). CU, for only the fifth time
this season, was out-rebounded 31-to-30. The game featured 12 tied
scores and 10 lead changes.
CU now goes back on the road to take on
conference rival Gardner-Webb on Feb. 16 at 6 p.m.

The Camels now trail the all-time series with Kennesaw State 3-2
since the teams started meeting in 2006 ... the game served as the
promotion "Pack It In Pink" to promote breast cancer awareness with
927 fans in attendance.
