BUIES CREEK, N.C.- After posting first, second and third-place
finishes in Campbell's meet against UNC Wilmington last Saturday,
Heidi Shallow captured the Camels' first CCSA Swimmer of the Week
award, the league office announced today.
Shallow, a native of Windsor, Ontario, earned one of three
individual Campbell victories on Saturday in the ninth event of the
meet, the 200-yard breaststroke. Shallow touched first in the event
swimming a time of 2:25.81.
The junior standout continued to earn valuable points for the
Camels placing second in the 200-yard individual medley
(2:16.52). Shallow also
guided Campbell's 200-medley relay team to a third-place finish in
the first event of the meet swimming a time of 1:56.74.
Shallow has steadily emerged as one of the CCSA's most prolific
breaststroke event swimmers. Her 200-yard breaststroke time of
2:24.71 set against North Florida on Nov. 3 currently
ranks second among the league's leaders and 100-breast (1:07.96)
time is fifth fastest.
Georgia Southern's Mackenzie Garrott touched just three hundredths
of a second faster in the 200-breast; the only competitor to swim a
faster time this season.
Not only does Shallow hold Campbell records in the 100-breast
(1:06.46), 200-breast (2:21.95), 200-individual medley (2:10.79)
and 400-indivdual medley (4:44.92), but she has seen the winners
circle more times than any other teammate this season. Last Saturday's first-place finish
marked the 16th time this season Shallow has touched
first in an event, not including relays.
The next time Campbell hits the pool
will be at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championship
in Huntersville, N.C. The
three day event is scheduled to begin Thursday, Feb. 21 at 8 a.m.
and will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 23.
