Women's Basketball Stays In The River City To Take On Jacksonville On Monday

Buies Creek, NC -- Campbell after defeating North Florida on Saturday continues the road trip with a trip across the city to take on Jacksonville University on Monday evening at 7 p.m.

"Jacksonvilleis a team that is obviously very talented and are always especially tough to play at their place," head coach Wanda Watkins explained. "I think what makes Jacksonville tough to beat are they are athletic and have a good balance on their team. Ashley Williams is one of the dominant post players in our league. She is their leading scorer and shoots at a very high percentage. They also have balanced scoring in their guard play and are a team that is averaging close to 70 points a game (68). They have a strong transition game, so one of the keys to the game is going to be slowing down their transition offense with our transition defense. It is something that we've been working on very hard since the Florida Gulf Coast game. Jacksonville is a very good team and are 17-4. We have everything in the world to gain from a game like this as we can continue to build on the momentum of the North Florida game."

Campbell (9-12, 4-4 A-Sun) leads the all-time series with the Dolphins 10-5 dating back to the first game in 1999. JU had the better of the two games last season and are currently riding a three-game winning streak over the Camels.

Campbell used the strong shooting of junior Lauren Arthur to defeat North Florida by a 68-48 margin on Monday. Arthur knocked down six threes on her way to a career-high 21 points. The six threes by Arthur were one off the school record set by Amanda Edwards in 1998. Freshman Lauren Yesh continued her strong play and tallied 13 points. Yesh leads the team and is averaging 10.3 points a game in the last four games for CU, a stretch in which the Camels are 3-1.

Senior Marlena Murphy is averaging 13.1 points and 11.0 rebounds per game to lead the Camels. Murphy is also the conference leader in rebounding and ranks seventh in the NCAA. Fellow senior Maggie Rich is second on the team at 7.8 points an outing.

Jacksonville (17-4, 7-1 A-Sun) defeated Gardner-Webb 85-53 on Saturday. Junior Virginia Gregoire led the team with 21 points against the Bulldogs.

On the year, senior Ashley Williams is averaging 17 points a game to lead the team and the conference. Williams is also the team's best rebounder at 5.8 rebounds a game and leads the conference with at 58 field goal percentage. Fellow junior Regina Omoite is also averaging in double figures at 11.4 points a game. Omite is also averaging 4.6 assists per game, which is tops in the league. Junior teammate DaVina Hamilton is fifth in the league in assists at 4.10 per game.

Overall, Jacksonville is an excellent scoring team and are second in the conference in offense at 68 points a game. Jacksonville leads the conference in scoring margin (7.1) and are also second in the league in assists (14.35). The Camels are the best overall rebounding team in the conference at nearly 43 rebounds a game (42.15). CU is also fourth in league in defense (62.3) and seventh in scoring (59.1)

The game can be followed online on Jacksonville's website judolphins.com.

Next, Campbell concludes the road swing with a trip to Macon, Ga. to take on conference rival Mercer at 7:30 on Feb. 9.
