BUIES CREEK, N.C.- Campbell will conclude its regular season
women's swimming schedule when it travels to the Port City to face
UNC Wilmington on Saturday.
Campbell (4-12, 4-10 CCSA) enters the dual fresh off a pair of
loses last weekend, dropping decisions to the College of Charleston
168-65 and North Florida 147-83.
Saturday's dual marks the third time this season Campbell and UNC
Wilmington will have met.
The Seahawks finished on top in both of the previous meetings,
dropping the Camels by scores of 148-56 (Jan. 25) and 218-67 (Jan.
26). Campbell possesses a
0-4 lifetime won-lost record against UNC Wilmington.
Heidi Shallow was Campbell's only event winner in its previous
competitions against UNC Wilmington earning three titles in two
meets. Shallow touched
first in the 200-yard breaststroke swimming a time of 2:25.31 on
Jan. 25, and continued with two more victories in the 100-breast
(1:08.28) and 200-breast (2:26.93) the next day. The junior from Windsor Ontario
currently holds the CCSA's second-best time in the 200-yard
breaststroke (2:24.71) and fifth-best time in the 100-yard
breaststroke (1:07.96).
Jackie Kenline and Ashlyn Stumpf also own times that rank among the
CCSA's best. Kenline
carries top-16 times in the 200-free (12th), 500-free
(12th) and 1000-yard freestyle (16th), while
Stumpf sits 8th in the 50-free (24.64) and
14th in the 100-free (54.10). Both Kenline and Stumpf have broken
Campbell University school records this season.
UNC Wilmington (6-9) dropped Wingate 146-106 last weekend for its
sixth dual meet victory of the season. Freshman Gwen Buss paced the Seahawks
winning the 50-free (25.53) and 100-free (54.69). Buss also guided UNC Wilmington's
200-free relay team to a first-place swimming the event in
1:39.49.
The Seahawks also feature Danielle Mortensen and Sabina Sinska, two
swimmers that combined to earn five victories in meets against
Campbell this season. On
Jan. 25, Mortensen won the 1000-free and 500-free, while Sinska
took the 200-free. Sinska
gave UNC Wilmington a pair of triumphs the next day in the 100 and
200 butterfly events.
The next time Campbell hits the pool will be at the Coastal
Collegiate Swimming Association Championship in Huntersville,
N.C. The three day event is
scheduled to begin Thursday, Feb. 21 at 8 a.m. and will conclude on
Saturday, Feb. 23.
